16. Protected roadside verge
The council have designated this verge as being worthy of being worthy of protection. The council has to make a balance between cutting the verge to improve visibility/accessibility for cars/pedestrians and leaving the verge uncut to promote wild flowers, birds and small mammals. On this stretch, they cut a swathe about 18 inches wide and leave the rest. Probably a reasonable compromise.
