9: River Management
The river has several man-made features that are designed to promote fish in particular, but some plant life. Features include a hazel circle of approx 10-12 feet diameter in the water providing some shelter inside the circle for smaller fish and also changing the water flow rate that helps scour out some of the river bed increasing the breeding/feeding habitats for all fish; artificial pools and shallow sections created in the river bed, again to change the water flow rate and create different habitat areas; woven willow "fences" along the banks to prevent further bank erosion and provide protection for flag iris and reed plants and again to narrow the river to increase flow rate in places.
