Lighter evenings and sunnier days...

RW

... make for some interesting wildlife-spotting opportunities.

A local resident sent in the above image with the comment:

"On 4 March 2025 we were lucky enough to see what we believe to be a barn owl hunting at sunset on the south side of Old Sarum hill fort. We watched for about 5 minutes during which the owl had a short tussle with a crow before swooping on its prey and then flying off in the direction of Phillips Lane. A lovely experience. This is the fifth barn owl we have seen in the last 2 weeks - the others being on Salisbury Plain but it is nice to see a local resident too.

Apologies for the grainy photo - my phone's zoom was maxed out and the owl was deft in movement."

The image has been added to the Bird sightings folder in the Images section of the website.

After the mist had cleared yesterday afternoon, near Keeper's Cottage there was a small group of five Roe deer relaxing in the sunshine. Three of the deer were grazing just out of shot of the two pictured above.

We have no time to stand and stare."
